TEIJIN FRONTIER is a Japan-based advanced materials company with over 100 years of history.

Over a decade ago, we faced a unique challenge: providing Wi-Fi in a secure conference room while allowing access only to laptops placed on the conference table. This concept was the opposite of conventional wireless technology. Instead of spreading signals widely, we focused on super near-field communication. The solution was not a special antenna, but TEIJIN’s proprietary 2D Communication Technology–based antenna technology, which contains wireless signals and delivers them only to the intended area. As a result, Wi-Fi functioned only when a device was placed on the table. This highly unique technology was developed jointly with CELLCROSS Co., Ltd. a venture company originating from the University of Tokyo. Subsequently, this same concept was applied to RFID technology, and the company has evolved into a unique group that has successfully solved isolation reading—previously considered difficult in the UHF band—through its proprietary technology.

RecoHand Series Technology

PATENTED
RecoHand GLOVE- TYPE

A dedicated attachment (GLOVE) designed specifically for RecoHand Reader Writer (RW) model, providing directional control to UHF-band RFID RW signals. When the GLOVE is equipped with the RW, the RW’s radio waves are guided to the fingertip, enabling tag reading at that position.
RecoHand GLOVE-Type is designed to read only tags within about two centimeters of the fingertip, ignoring stray tags around it.
This means you can simply touch—or nearly touch—a tagged object with a gloved hand to read its unique ID.

PEN- TYPE

Touch Scanning

A dedicated attachment designed specifically for RecoHand Reader/Writer (RW) model, providing directional control to UHF-band RFID RW signals.

When the RW is connected to the PEN-Type, a strong electromagnetic field is generated at the tip. This enables selective and highly accurate reading of ultra-small tags, such as coil-on-chip tags, which are difficult to detect with conventional antennas.

By adjusting the RW’s output, even standard label tags can be read efficiently while minimizing misreads.

Where It Can Be Used

CASE 1

JUST PLACE IT ON TOP OF A BARCODE SCANNER

Do you face any of the following challenges?

You want to utilize RFID at POS, but some items still require barcode-based operations. POS RFID readers are often large and take up valuable space, making installation difficult. Layout changes and staff training tend to incur additional costs.
RecoHand BEAM-Type is a true retrofit solution that addresses these issues. It requires minimal space and allows operation with almost the same motion as barcode scanning, minimizing the need for operational changes.

CASE 2

JUST FIT IT INTO A PACKING BOX

Do you face any of the following challenges?

You are considering a post-packing bulk RFID reading solution but are unsure which reader to choose. Most RFID readers are large and heavy, making installation difficult and relocation inconvenient when layouts change.
Depending on the RFID tags used, there are issues with over-reading or missed reads, and mitigating this requires complex tuning.
RecoHand BEAM-Type approaches the problem not after packing, but during the packing process itself. By enabling inspection at the same time items are placed into the box, it allows you to achieve your goals with minimal equipment investment while maximizing operational efficiency.

Applications

RETAIL

Customers often feel stressed waiting in line at checkout, and there are instances where store staff make mistakes when picking items for curbside and in-store pickup as well as ship-from-store orders. RecoHand™ helps enable a seamless mobile POS experience where customers can pay without waiting in line, simply by handing items to staff in-store. Staff can now instantly and accurately capture item information without the need for visual label checks or scanning barcodes. In one motion, as the staff grabs items, they are receiving feedback.

LOGISTICS

RecoHand makes it easier to receive items and provide a quality check during sorting, picking, or whenever RFID-tagged items or cartons are handled. Delivery drivers often find it very difficult to find what they need to deliver in their packed vehicles. The “last mile” is often the longest mile spent searching for the package they need. Now they can simply touch the RFID tags on the packages and shelves while they load-up, so that when they get to the delivery address they know where the right package is, doing it all without worry that an incorrect tag could’ve been mis-scanned.

HEALTHCARE

RecoHand is effective for managing expired pharmaceuticals and improving the efficiency of picking medical supplies. For example, are you currently checking the expiration dates of pharmaceuticals by manually picking up each item in a tray and scanning barcodes? Even if you can read all items at once with RFID, finding a single expired item can be a tedious task. Additionally, if you are visually confirming product information or scanning barcodes during picking, there is significant room for human error. Since RecoHand™ does not require a line of sight, it allows for extremely fast and accurate feedback while performing picking tasks.

MANUFACTURING

When detecting RFID tags on parts, boxes, and tools, RecoHand provides the necessary information for each assembly task while performing routine operations, contributing to worker efficiency. Additionally, it naturally captures detailed process information—such as who touched or held what and when— without adding extra work for the operators, enabling the identification of process bottlenecks and high-precision delivery management.

Application

What is the difference between Barcode One-to-One Scanning and RecoHand Series One-to-One Scanning?

RecoHand provides the same peace of mind as barcode-style one-to-one scanning while collecting all unique information contained in an RFID tag—not only generic, non-unique UPC information. This enables accurate tracking, better inventory control, and a more efficient supply chain.

What is the difference between RecoHand and a conventional handheld RFID reader operated at low RF power?

Simply reducing the RF output power of a conventional handheld reader does not necessarily create a well-controlled read zone. Read performance can still be affected by antenna characteristics, tag orientation, surrounding materials, and nearby tags.
RecoHand is specifically designed for selective, short-range RFID reading. Its reader and antenna/material structure work together to control the RF field and reduce unintended reads outside the target area.

How does RecoHand reduce unintended reads of nearby RFID tags?

RecoHand controls the RF read zone through a combination of its dedicated reader and antenna/material design. This helps limit RFID detection to the intended area and reduces unintended reads of nearby tags. Actual performance may vary depending on the tag and operating environment, so please contact us to discuss your application.

What are the differences between the RecoHand types?

It depends on the target item, required read zone, operating environment, and workflow. The RecoHand Series includes different types designed for different reading scenarios. Please contact us to discuss your requirements so that we can recommend the most suitable type.
